HERB TEAS

Herb teas have been used for centuries, as far back as when 18th Century colonists drank Bee Balm, or Oswego Tea, as a protest to British taxes. The leaves, seeds or roots of many herbs are used. If you are making tea from the leaves, you need only pour boiling water over them. If stems are used, it is necessary to steep them for about 5 minutes. Roots and seeds need to be boiled about 15 minutes to make a decoction.

Some of the very interesting teas which can be make are as follows:

Anise Tea - Use the seeds. A half teaspoon of anise seed in 1 cup of boiling water, steeped for 5 minutes. Can be drunk hot or cold.

Lemon Balm Tea - One pint of boiling water to 1 ounce of Lemon Balm. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes, strain and dring. Serve with honey or lemon. Add some Rosemary or Cloves for variety.

Catnip Tea - Use dried Catnip Leaves. Pour boiling water over them and steep for several minutes. Good with honey or lemon.

Chamomile Tea - Steep 3 teaspoons of fresh flowers in 1 cup of boiling water for 5 minutes. Strain. Sweeten with honey. Good for digestion

Horehound Tea- Use fresh sprigs. Simmer in a cupful of water and make weaker or stronger as to your own taste. Horehound has been used for ages to treat ailments of the lungs and throat.

Peppermint Tea - Make Peppermint Tea by steeping the fresh or dried leaves in boiling water. Vary amounts of Peppermint from 1 to 2 taeaspoonsful per cup of water. Peppermint can also be combined with other teas for variety. Many otherMintTeas can be made using the same process.
